You cycle around the lake Maridalsvannet, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet gravel roads as you pass farmland and the old ruin Margaretakirken. This is a very popular roundtrip for the Oslo people as well as for visitors, both cyclists and hikers.
On the way back, you follow the river Akerselva, and there are several places to eat, drink or even swim by the river banks. It is a very nice, easy ride down to the city center all the way to where the river meets the ocean. I you want to make the trip easier and skip some of the elevation gain you may take the Metro to Nydalen or the train to Kjelsås and start from there.

A highlight of the cycling route around Maridalsvannet is the scenic viewpoint overlooking the lake, offering stunning views of the water and surrounding forested hills.

Margaretakirken was a stone church built in the 13th century. The ruin was partially excavated and restored in 1934, and is beautifully situated at Kirkeby at the northern end of Maridalsvannet.

A nice area to take a swim, unlike the Lake Maridalen which is drinking water and not for swimming.
