A historic posting station with panoramic views.

From the farmyard at Grøna, the view is truly spectacular – on clear days you can see all the way to the Rondane mountains. The site has a long history dating back to the late 16th century. Grøna once served as a summer mountain farm for Hovinsholm on Helgøya, where cattle were transported across Lake Mjøsa on rafts before being driven up from Skreia to the upland pastures. In the late 18th century, when posting stations were established along the Trondhjemske Kongevei, Grøna was selected as one of them. The main building, believed to date from the 17th century, was expanded to accommodate travellers along the historic royal road, and for around a century Grøna functioned as a skysstasjon.

In 2011, the Vingebakken family purchased the property and began an extensive restoration project that is still ongoing. Today, visitors can stay overnight in the old Grøna stabbur (storehouse) and Størhuset, which has been fully restored and converted into comfortable apartments. The interiors combine traditional style with modern amenities, including water-based heating, private bathrooms, and fully equipped kitchens. From the farmyard you can enjoy your morning coffee with wide views across the Toten countryside and “the other side of Lake Mjøsa,” waking up to birdsong and grazing animals in the surrounding fields. Grøna now offers a rare opportunity to spend the night in historic surroundings along the old Kings road.

Please note that this is a self-catering accommodation, so you will need to bring your own food and drinks. Nearest store is at Skreia, 5 km away.
