Day 1 - Scenic Bus Ride and Lakefront Stay

Lemonsjøen Fjellstue, Tessanden
Dinner
you will enjoy a scenic bus journey from the hustle and bustle of Oslo to the quiet, rural Valdres region.

On the first day of the trip, board the comfortable Valdresekspressen bus in Oslo for a scenic journey to Lemonsjøen in Jotunheimen. Spend the night at the charming Lemonsjøen Fjellstue cabin, located next to the beautiful Lemonsjøen Lake. The surrounding area offers plenty of opportunities for short bike rides, hikes, and other nature experiences.

During the relaxing journey from Oslo to the Valdres Region, you will be treated to beautiful countryside roads, passing through small towns surrounded by lakes and fields. As you move further into the country, you'll spot mountains in the distance, and soon you'll find yourself climbing steep roads that lead straight into the national park. The coach is equipped with adjustable seats, free WiFi, outlets with charging ports, and toilet facilities on board.

Lemonsjø Mountain Lodge is a typical little cabin located in Jotunheimen National Park, next to Lemonsjø Lake. There are many popular trails running via Lemonsjø, and the friendly hosts accommodate both hikers and cyclists during the popular summer months.

This is your first bike ride, from Lemonsjøen to Ruten. The quiet trail will take you along gravel mountain roads through the Murudalen Valley. As you cycle, you’ll pass beautiful rivers such as Sjoa and Muru as well as the lakes Slangen and Olstappen.

Travel on gravel road through Murudalen and along several mesmerising rivers such as the river Sjoa and the river Muru with its impressive twists and turns. Around halfway there will be a steep descent that takes you back down towards the river and past the Lake Slangen, around Lake Olstappen. During summer you might run into goats and other farm animals grazing in the area. For the last stage up to Ruten fjellstue you can either follow the main road or alternatively try the little yet more strenuous path through nature along the river Espa.

You’ll be spending the night at Ruten Mountain Lodge, which is a charming guest house located in Gudbrandsdalen - one of Norway’s most iconic and well-known valleys. This area also goes by the name of Elgland because one of Europe's largest moose herds cross here.

As you get closer to the mountain farm life, you'll experience an important part of Valdres culture. You'll also have the opportunity to hike along the way, with the stunning Synshorn and Bitihorn mountains waiting for you.

Bygdin Høifieldshotell is located in a picturesque spot, 3910 feet above sea level, south of Jotunheimen and near the stunning lake "Bygdin." You can do a detour to Koldedalen from Tyinholmen crossroad, to come closer to the iconic mountains Falketinden, Uranostinden and the impressive glacier along the way. From Tyin you cycle down the paved road to Tyinkrysset, where you will find your accomodation for the night, Filefjellstuene. Here you will stay in brand new hotel rooms with panoramic mountain view. Today, the journey starts with a transfer for your luggage, your bikes and you, as this stretch has no cycling road alternative. The only road available is the main road which usually has some traffic during summer, so we recommend doing it this way for your own comfort.

After delivering your luggage in Haugastøl, you continue your journey on your bike. Now, the famous cycling route along the Rallarvegen awaits you. This gravel road was originally used by workers who built the Bergen Railway back in the early 1900. It opened for cyclists in 1974 and quickly became a popular cycling route. Amazing views over the mountains, lakes and the Hardangervidda accompanies your journey today until you reach Vatnahalsen, your destination for the day.

Day 10 - From Vatnahalsen to Flåm

Breakfast, packed lunch
19 km
60 m
Rallarvegen_GEO_02075_Foto_Paul_Lockhart

This is the last stretch on the bike and this one takes you down to Flåm, by the fjord. This stage is easy when it comes to distance, but you lose a lot of elevation in a short time and some parts are a bit steep. Take it easy down and enjoy the view. You pass impressive waterfalls and follow the river down to the valley before arriving in the little village of Flåm, nestled in a bay by the Sognefjord, also called the king of the fjords.

Bus from Flåm to Oslo.
