A cycling tour to remember – in a green and rugged; almost lunar landscape.
It’s an easy ride out of Kjøllefjord. Make sure to bring everything you need, as there are no stores until Mehamn. Only 7-8 km from the center lies a unique accommodation spot. At Daavi Siida, you can stay in a cabin with a Sami family who have their reindeer on summer pasture here on the Nordkyn Peninsula (Čorgas). They offer breakfast, but other meals must be arranged by yourself. This can be a suitable stage, as the boat arrives in the afternoon at 5 p.m. For those who want to cycle more, an extra ride along the coast to Kifjord (3 km) and the coastal Sami village of Dyfjord (11 km) can be enjoyable.
The next day starts with a gentle cycling route, passing the picturesque Oksevåg at the end of the fjord. Next, a climbing section awaits with 250 meters of elevation gain over 5 km. The ease of the ride from there depends on the wind direction. Here, at this altitude, there is no vegetation to shield you from the wind, and you are fully exposed to the natural elements, giving a feeling of cycling through a lunar landscape. Eventually, the sea comes back into view, and the road descends toward Mehamn. Here, you’ll find hotels, dining spots, and shops. The Santa House is located by the harbor, featuring over 27,000 Christmas items in its museum.
