On the Hurum peninsula in Asker municipality, there are several farms selling local products. Cycling offers a great way to visit these farms, purchase seasonal, homegrown goods, and stop by farm cafés. The route is a loop with optional detours.
Holmsbu is an idyllic spot with a pier, eateries, shops, and a charming beach hotel. White houses, flowers, and a marketplace decorate the town. From there, the road climbs steeply past Holmsbu Church, which dates back to 1887. In 1950, it was renovated, and the artist Henrik Sørensen, along with other Holmsbu painters, decorated the church interior. The route continues uphill towards Sand Farm, where you’ll find a farm shop, bakery, cozy café, and plenty of activities throughout the year. At Granvoll Farm, there’s a delightful farm store selling local honey. The next stop is Grønnsletta Farm, offering a wide range of local products such as eggs, meat, yarn, and cheeses.
The route then loops back, and at Kana, the path becomes less trafficked. You can take a 3 km detour to Knatvoldstranda camping and beach if you wish to extend the trip. Alternatively, continue to Bergsmyrene Farm, which has a self-service shop offering organic and biodynamic products. The detour to Biffgården follows gravel roads, where you’ll find a wide variety of meat products in their self-service store, with cows grazing in the surrounding fields. The route then climbs back up Jahrenveien, where there are more hills and gravel roads, passing Ravnsborg Market Garden. The scenery transitions to pleasant farmland and eventually into woodland. You´ll pass the small Honningbua on the way down. Some short sections have rocky paths, but otherwise, the gravel road leads comfortably down to Rødtangen. This is a beautiful spot by the sea. The final part follows paved roads back to Holmsbu.
The entire loop is 23 km long with considerable elevation changes. With an e-bike, the hills are easier to tackle. Since the section between Sand and Grønnsletta can be busy with traffic, this route is best suited for experienced adult cyclists.
