Cycle from the Airport to the forest Romeriksåsen on lovely gravel roads. Rest at the idyllic Lake Bjertnes.

Hotels around Gardermoen serve as excellent starting points for cycling in Nannestad. The destination for today’s trip is Bjertnessjøen, located in Romeriksåsen. This vast hiking area is used year-round and is perfect for cycling. As the area south of the airport is a ravine valley unsuitable for cycling, the route follows Nannestadveien with some traffic initially, but quickly diverts onto gravel roads along Engervegen. Passing Nannestad Church, the gravel path continues through Låkedalen. It’s delightful to see the river Leira rushing by, with numerous farms, fields, and meadows dominating the landscape.

From the intersection at Rustadsaga, the terrain becomes more wooded, and the ascent into the forest gradually increases. Sheep and cows commonly share the road – this is their home territory. Despite the incline, the ascent is gradual and the gravel surface is good for cycling.

Upon arriving at Bjertnessjøen, it’s serene, peaceful, and idyllic. Several benches offer convenient spots for a break. Remember to bring a packed meal as there are no places to buy food along the way. Note that Bjertnessjøen is a drinking water reservoir, so swimming is not permitted.

The trail continues around the lake, providing beautiful views of the surrounding landscape.

Some practical tips

The trip is moderately demanding due to its elevation gain, and some cycling experience on gravel and in traffic is advisable since there are 2-3 km on a busy road.
