This is an easy bike ride on roads with very little traffic to one on the treasures of Northern Finnskogen.
From Gravberget Farm, it’s first a couple of kilometers on asphalt before the route turns off at the sign Ulvå Bridge and follows the Ulvåa River downwards. There are views of the river in several places, and it can be nice to get off the bike and stroll down to the river that winds its way down.
Eventually, you follow the Wilderness Route National Cycling Route 9 for a while. At Haltorpveien, the gravel road continues to the left and to Abborbua, which is located by Halsjøen. Here, you´ll find benches and a swimming spot in idyllic surroundings. Abborbua is owned by Statskog and rented out for overnight stays.
Langneset with Kompasset is one of the gems in the area. Here, there are plenty of benches and a beach. When the water level in the lake is not too high, it is also possible to walk out to Kompasset, which is a large wooden lavvu on its own island. Here, simple overnight stays are also possible, and it is free to use.
The road continues up towards Halberget, where you can use your strength on gravel in the uphill sections. At the top, there is a nice view. Don’t be surprised if you suddenly encounter a moose! The rest of the trip is easy cycling back to Gravberget.
Note that there can be some loose gravel at times. Make sure to bring food and drink for the trip.
The river was used for log driving until 1969. Today, it´s a popular fishing river.
Enjoy idyllic surroundings, benches and a swimming spot at this forest cabin.
Great beach and resting area by Halsjøen. Check out Kompasset if water is low.
