Havøysund – Kokelv 70 km. Hurtigruten/Coastal Route arrives in Havøysund in the morning, offering a pleasant start to the cycling journey. It’s a good idea to stock up at the local store for the day’s ride, as there are few places to shop along the route. They also serve coffee here. It’s highly recommended to visit the artwork located on the hill behind the church, created by the artist Runi Horn. This unique structure has a distinctive atmosphere. The road out of the fishing village crosses the bridge and follows the base of the mountain.
The nature is dramatic with mountain passes and fjord landscapes. Along the way, you will experience several unique rest stops that make this road particularly special. It is common to see reindeer grazing and sea eagles gliding over the sky. After Snefjord, the landscape changes and becomes flatter. The wind can be strong on the open plains. The fascinating slate mountains are truly unique, and if you’re lucky, you may spot the Sphinx. The road winds in and out of fjords toward Kokelv. Here, you can stay overnight at Aurora Glamping in turf huts or a glass dome. In Kokelv, you will find the Sea Sami Museum in Nillagården—a former sea Sami smallholding. It offers rich insight into self-sufficiency from the 1890s. The store in Kokelv has limited opening hours.
Kokelv – Hammerfest 105 km. The day begins with easy cycling along the Russelva river, with several resting benches by the water. In Olderfjord, 28 km from Kokelv, there is a dining spot and accommodations available. This area serves as a crossroads with notable traffic along the route. The journey continues over the mountains and down toward Skaidi, which also offers food and lodging. Repparfjord camping provides an additional overnight option, making it feasible to break the ride to Hammerfest into several stages. In Kvalsund, you’ll find a store and a local pub/café known for its delicious waffles. Just across the bridge, cyclists can bypass the tunnel and view the Sami sacrificial stone, Stállu. This stone was believed to possess a spirit and received offerings in hopes of gaining assistance and luck. The route largely follows the coast toward Hammerfest, with increased traffic as the city nears, culminating in a shared pedestrian and cycling path for the final stretch.
