Tromsø is one of Norway’s largest fishing ports, an important logistics hub in the Northern Norway and a large cruise port. Many cosy wooden houses meet you when you bike along the harbourside from the city centre. Tromsø´s architecture is an interesting mix of old and new, wood and brick.
The Arctic Cathedral
The mountain Tromsdalstind is towering over the valley, and the iconic landmark, the Arctic Cathedral, roughly where the bridge ends. It is a natural first stop with its unique architecture and glass mosaic. The church is often open to visitors and in the summer season, there are also organ concerts here. Photo: Kjeltil Robertsen.
Continue the route to Fjellheisen, where you can park your bike and choose between taking the cable car to the top of the mountain or climbing the Sherpa steps. At the top, there is an amazing view of the city and the mountains behind that is definitely worth seeing, before returning back over the bridge to the center of Tromsø. The Polar Museum is on the way and is also worth a visit.
