Starting in Ålesund, the route loops around Borgundfjorden, from busy streets to peaceful cycle paths and country roads. On the way you pass the Sunnmøre Museum where you can explore a Viking ship replica and old houses from the area.
After the first ferry from Solavågen, a 20-minute trip takes you to Festøya, followed by a 14 km cycle to Standal ferry, offering a stunning ride along Hjørundfjord. You’ll find a relaxing atmosphere, flat terrain, and lots of photo opportunities. Bring your own snack for a break at Standal, while enjoying views of the majestic Sunnmøre Alps, or explore the area if there’s a wait for the ferry.
The journey from Standal offers a choice: disembark at Trandal to visit the quaint Christian Gaard with food, drink, and sleeping accomodations. Several times a year, music festivals are held at Christian Gaard. You´ll also find a popular swing here – perfect for Instagram. If you don´t get off here, continue with the ferry directly to Sæbø, where you can grab supplies and relax by the fjord before heading to Lekneset with the ferry. Or you can go for a short hike up in the mountains to Gunnarråsa, starting from Kvievegen. The view is great and a swing is also placed here for great shots.
The last ferry of the day is Sæbø to Lekneset. A short 9 km ride brings you to the historic Union Hotel in Øye. This is a fantastic, historical hotel surrounded by nature and offering a unique stay.
