A beautiful boat ride and delightful cycling.
Start the day from Fiskepirterminalen close to Stavanger city center with a 1 hour and 45 minute boat ride that treats you to the stunning coastal landscape of Boknafjorden with a lot of small islands. You disembark at Nedstrand – an idyllic little place to start the cycling. Here you´ll find a local grocery store. There will be several places to eat so you don´t need to stack up today.
The cycling today is a mix of rolling green hills and slightly undulating terrain on asphalt. Several scenic views of distant, snow-capped mountains and encounters with local wildlife such as cows, sheep, and goats makes this a nice ride. There will be cycling on shared roads, but the traffic is usually low. A lot of the time you can cycle on separate bike/pedestrian lanes.
Enjoy relaxing stops along the route. At Skjoldastraumen, after 25 km, you´ll pass Norway’s only saltwater lock, with an interesting history. A local store and a nice beach is also to be found here. After another 13 km you´ll reach Aksdal, a small town center with a café and shops. Take your rest by the scenic lake Aksdalsvatnet close by, with benches, beach and pathways – before rejoining the route towards Haugesund. About 3 km before finish it can be nice to make a stop at the nice recreational area Eivindsvatnet, especially if you want a swim on a warm day. Make sure to conclude the day at Home Hotel Amanda —a cyclist-friendly hotel known for its welcoming service and perfect location.
