A beautiful ferry ride and a glacier in the distance!
About 11 km after leaving Leirvik, make the little detour on the pathway to Sagvåg – a small, charming fishing village. Next is a hilly section – partly on shared roads with some traffic. The landscape is dominated by forest, lakes and farmland with some views of the sea and surrounding mountains in the distance. Fitjar offers stores and food. It´s also a hotel here, if you want to end the day here.
Continue another 7 km to the ferry at Sandvikvåg. The sailing takes 40 minutes and you get a great view of the glacier Folgefonna to the east and the scenic archipelago to the west. It´s a familiar pattern near ferry crossings — a steady climb before a quick descent to the harbour, often followed by another uphill stretch after the crossing.
1 km after the crossing, make sure to turn left, although the sign is missing. As you get to the top of the hill, check out the cutest little sculpture garden; Solbakken. The rest is downhill to Os, where you´ll find several hotels, shops, restaurants and a nice harbour area.
