A easy and charming stage with many pleasant stops.
Leaving Gjøvik, there are several possible routes. The official digital route of Mjøstråkk quickly climbs and follows Nye Vestre Totenveg before descending towards Kapp. This is challenging with many extra elevation gains, so a good alternative can be to follow the pedestrian and bike path along Gjøvikvegen, then take Nordlivegen past Annexstad Farm – which offers accommodation in magnificent surroundings – and enjoy the beautiful view on the way down Bjørnsgårdlinna. This way, you avoid cycling along the busy Gjøvikvegen that continues south.
From Hekshusstranda Camping, it is nice to follow the coastal path to Mjøsas Ark; Mjøsa’s own museum, idyllically situated with benches and a Skibladner dock outside. Also, visit the Peder Balke Center; an art center, café, and farm shop in very picturesque surroundings. In the summer, there is a café and strawberry picking at Homlas Hage, and on hot days, a soft ice at Mix Bilittkiosken tastes great. It is very popular with the locals who travel far for this soft ice cream!
The route quickly descends to Skreia, where you´ll find shops and cafés. The Mjøstråkk route turns right, but we have included a detour to Evjua Camping, which offers accommodation, a restaurant, and a Skibladner dock. It is about 6.5 km on a pedestrian and bike path, and you must return the same way to continue the tour.
