Before leaving Voss, you should visit Bordalsgjelet. This detour adds about 4 kilometers of extra cycling and includes a short walk, but it is a spectacular natural attraction. Over thousands of years, ice and the river have carved out the incredible potholes you’ll see here.

Continue from Voss on the old Hardanger Railway, which has been transformed into a great cycling path. The road climbs gently but is not challenging. Flatlandsmoen Camping, which has a floating pier and a kiosk open in the summer, makes for a good rest stop. On the way, you might see several groups of skydivers leaping into the skies over Voss.

One highlight along the route is Skjervsfossen, an impressive waterfall. The ride down the winding roads to view it from below is breathtaking. The cycling path continues from here, quiet and peaceful, following the river. Take the small detour to a farm shop signposted near Kjerland. It has self-service, offering apples and plums from Hardanger! In Granvin, you’ll find the 300-year-old Jaunsen Gjestgivarstad, which still operates as a charming Bed & Breakfast. There is also a grocery store in Granvin.

The next 9 kilometers along the winding Hardanger Road is shared with traffic, so some caution is needed. The Folkedal Tunnel is 1,3 km long, lit and has a narrow sidewalk. After cycling 45 kilometers, you’ll reach the ferry at Kvandal. A short 20-minute ferry ride takes you to Utne, a picturesque little village with white houses. Here, you’ll find the historic Utne Hotel, one of Norway’s oldest hotels, as well as the Hardanger Folk Museum and a grocery store.

Leaving Utne, the route continues with a steep climb, surrounded by apple orchards everywhere. This area is home to an apple cider distillery. The scenery becomes incredibly idyllic, with apple trees, fjords, and small farms creating a charming atmosphere. You’ll pass through several quaint villages before encountering a challenging steep hill toward the end of the ride. Two short, well-lit, and straight tunnels lead you into Jondal. In Jondal, you’ll find shops and accommodation options to end your day.
