Haukeli is the starting point for the journey. You can get here by bus from cities like Oslo, Kristiansand, or Haugesund/Bergen. You can book a spot for your bike through Nor-Way.no. The bus ride itself is a great nature experience and builds anticipation for what lies ahead. Haukeli isn’t a large place, but you’ll find a small cafe, a shop, and accommodations here. There’s nothing to buy in the nearest 25 km, so make sure you have the food and drinks you need.

Now begins a real climbing stretch. It’s a steady ascent for 4-5 km. It’s not too steep to cycle, but the hill is tough and long. Feel free to take a break and enjoy the view along the way. And don’t worry, it’s absolutely worth it when you reach the top. Here, a beautiful mountain landscape awaits; open and stunning. Several rest areas provide a chance to catch your breath. You’ll see goats and sheep, lakes, and forests. Guaranteed to be filled with fresh mountain air.

As you approach Hovden, you’ll see the ski slopes in the distance. Hovden is a well-known winter sports destination with ski lifts where downhill biking is popular in the summer. This is a famous cabin area, and there are several accommodation options here, such as Hovdestøylen or Hovden Fjellstoge. In Hovden, you’ll find shops, eateries, and a water park. There are many hiking opportunities here, so if you want to stay an extra day, there are both local hikes and bike rides to explore.
