Today, you leave Hovden along the Otra River, in a beautiful mountain area. After about 9 km, the route veers off the main road – pay a little attention here so you don’t miss the turn – and continues on a peaceful country road. You’ll pass a golf course in the mountain wilderness, and there are cows grazing nearby. After you return to the main road, it’s only a few more kilometers to a nice rest area by the river, well-equipped with benches. The distance from Hovden to this point is approximately 21 km.
Bykle is the first place with a shop, after about 28 km in total. It’s also worth stopping at the old church and Lislestog courtyard – in the summer, they offer guided tours – and the little rose-painted church is very charming inside.
A couple of times, the main road continues through tunnels – the bike path finds it way around on very pleasant small roads. Here, you can also read about how people and animals were transported in the old days when crossing the mountains. Today, you’ll cycle through several quiet and scenic areas. At Sanden Såre motorhome park, it’s nice to turn off and cycle on the smaller roads – signs may be missing if you’re coming from the north. After about 53 km, the bike route is signed turning left towards the center of Valle, but it’s recommended to follow the main road a little further to reach the most beautiful rest area of the trip; Honnevje. Here, it’s very well-equipped with plenty of benches, swimming spots, and outdoor areas.
There is a bike path for the stretch into Valle – the second place today with a shop. You can buy food at the Esso station. If you want to try a Via Ferrata, you can do so in Valle – check out https://www.brattnorge.no/nomelandsfjell. It´s also possible to stay the night in Valle; at Bergtun Hotell.
A few kilometers on a divided road await you down the valley. It’s an easy ride and beautiful along the water and mountains, but there may be some traffic at times. Upon arriving at Rysstad, there’s a shop and the opportunity for accommodation at the charming Sølvgarden.
