A short but memorable stage — from farm life at Holsingsetra to a demanding trail and quiet gravel roads, ending at cozy Mokk Farm.
Waking up at Holsingsetra is an experience in itself. Roosters crow, cows graze outside the window, and hens, rabbits and even pigs are part of the daily life on the summer farm. Sharing breakfast with the budeier gives a glimpse into traditional mountain farming, a way of life that feels both timeless and deeply rooted in the landscape. Hearing their stories makes you realize that seterdrift is no small task, it´s hard work and is an important tradition in the Norwegian farming history.
The day’s cycling soon turns challenging. A 2.3 km stretch of push-bike trail through wet and uneven terrain demands patience and effort. Be prepared for swarms of horseflies – insect repellent is essential. Not every day on the road is smooth, yet these tougher stretches often make the journey more memorable.
After the hardest part, the route opens into quiet gravel roads winding across mountain landscapes. The stillness of the highlands, the wide skies and the sense of being far from the world give a unique rhythm to the ride. You´ll pass Lustadstua – which is bookable for a stay and close to the hiking route towards the geographical centre of Norway. Since the days cycling is short, you may want to do the hike – it will be a 3 hours roundtrip into Skjækerfjella. Then it´s only 7 kilometers before Mokk gård comes into view – a welcoming and cozy place to rest for the night. After a short but demanding day, the mix of farm life, wilderness, and remote cycling makes this stage stand out as a highlight.
