Discover the Namdal coast by bike with thousands of islands and islet, fjords, and unique geology. This is a unique island-hopping cycling adventure. You begin your journey in Steinkjer, biking through scenic farmlands to Namsos. From there, you take a boat to the charming island of Jøa and continue to the coastal town of Rørvik, where you’ll have time to explore at your own pace.

The tour includes a visit to the spectacular island of Leka, celebrated for its extraordinary geology. You will also go by boat to Sør-Gjæslingan, a historic archipelago, before concluding the cycling tour back in Rørvik. Over these five days, you’ll enjoy unforgettable experiences and vibrant coastal culture.

On this trip, you don’t have to worry about heavy luggage or getting stuck with punctures or other boring obstacles. Your luggage is transported from place to place, and the tour guide is always nearby with an accompanying car. This is a complete package consisting of bicycles, accommodation and several meals. So that you only have to think about enjoying the surroundings from the bicycle seat.

You will be part of a group (approx. 12 people) traveling together, but you will cycle on your own and at your own pace.

Day 1 - From Steinkjer to Namsos

The tour begins in Steinkjer, at the Kystriksveien Info Centre. The first stage starts with a scheduled bus departing Steinkjer at 1:30 pm, arriving at Lensmannsgården at 2:00 pm for a shared lunch and preparation for the cycling journey.

For those wanting a longer bike route from Steinkjer to Namsos (81 km), an earlier start from Steinkjer at around 10:30 am is possible. You would need to arrive at Lensmannsgården by 2:00 pm. The tour guide will transport luggage and bicycles to Lensmannsgården.

After lunch, we’ll begin the 43-kilometer ride from Lensmannsgården to Scandic Rock City in Namsos, aiming to reach Namsos at approximately 6:00 pm. The day concludes with a dinner and an informational meeting at the hotel.

Day 2 - Rock'n Roll, Peaceful Roads and Panoramic Views

After breakfast, we’ll visit the Rock City exhibition right next door to the hotel. A local guide will lead us through the history of Trønder rock music, and we’ll explore the Universe of Åge Aleksandersen.

Following the tour, you’ll have free time to cycle around Namsos. You may wish to take a ride up Klompen, a town gorge offering fantastic views over Namsos, the fjord, and the salmon-rich Namsen River. We depart Namsos by express boat at 12:10, arriving on the island of Jøa at 12:50.

Check-in at Segelsund is at 1:00 pm, giving you time to prepare for an enjoyable afternoon cycling on Jøa. Known for its peaceful roads and light traffic, Jøa offers a scenic cycling route with several interesting stops. You’ll also have the option to hike the Jøa steps, 938 in total, for a panoramic view of Folla and the Namdal coast. In the evening, a dinner featuring delicious local cuisine will be served.

Day 3 - Rørvik - A Charming Coastal Town

After breakfast at Segelsund, we’ll set off on a bike ride to visit the Norwegian writer Olav Duun’s childhood home, where local guides will welcome us and share insights. We'll then enjoy coffee and cakes at Mrs. L’s before heading back to Seierstad to catch the 12:50 boat from Jøa to Abelvær, arriving at 1:15 pm.

From Abelvær, we’ll continue to Rørvik. Upon arrival, we’ll check in at Kysthotellet Rørvik, and you’ll have some free time to explore this charming coastal town.

Dinner will be on your own, offering a great chance to try one of the local restaurants.

Day 4 - Excursion to Leka - Norway's Geological National Monument

We begin the day with a boat ride from Rørvik to Leka, where we’ll enjoy a scenic bike tour around this beautiful and unique island. Designated Norway's Geological National Monument, Leka offers an unforgettable experience as we cycle around its entirety, with stops along the way to explore some of the island’s many hiking trails.

On Leka’s west side, the mountains reveal striking yellow and red hues, evoking the landscapes of the American West. Here, the earth’s mantle is fully exposed, making a ride along Leka’s western side feel like a journey into the earth’s inner layers.

In the late afternoon, we return to Rørvik by boat. For our final evening, we’ll gather at the cozy Kork og Vinbar, located close to the Kysthotellet, for dinner and a memorable last night together.

Day 5 - The Historic Sør-Gjæslingan Archipelago

Friday brings an exciting boat trip, including a visit to a local fish farm and a stop at the historic Sør-Gjæslingan archipelago, where we’ll enjoy lunch along the shore. We’ll meet at Norveg at 10:00 am for a 10:30 am departure, returning around 2:30 pm. For those interested, there will also be an option to visit the coastal museum Norveg or Berggården after the trip (admission not included). The cycling tour concludes upon our return from Sør-Gjæslingan.

When you travel back home, you have several options. The Hurtigruten or Havila ships depart southbound at 9:30 pm, arriving in Trondheim early the next morning. Northbound departure is at 10:00 pm.

There are also flights from Rørvik to Trondheim by www.wideroe.no The fastest and often cheapest way to return to Trondheim.

Alternatively, you can take the express boat to Namsos at 7:30 pm, arriving at 9:10 pm. Continuing onward by bus to Steinkjer is not available at that time. If you’d like to have your own car available after the cycling tour, we recommend driving to Namsos on Day 1 and meeting the group there in the evening.

Upon receiving the confirmed booking you will be invoiced NOK 2000 per person. The final invoice will be due 60 days before the trip starts.

Cancellation more than 30 days before the departure date results in a full refund minus the deposit. Cancellation less than 30 days before departure does not give a refund.

We recommend everyone to have travel insurance/cancellation insurance in case of illness or other unforeseen events that prevent you from completing the trip.
