In the mountain areas between Lillehammer and Vinstra, lies Peer Gynts Rike. Here you will find scenic areas and ancient cultural landscapes. Here, Peer Gynt found peace and inspiration for many of his imaginative stories and many still find both peace and joy in traveling in these mountain areas both summer and winter.
You start in Øyer, Lillehammer and continues through the cultural landscape in Gausdal before you reach the mountain areas at Skeikampen. From there you follow the Peer Gynt road via Espedalen to Skåbu. The area offers a varied terrain, you cycle in open high mountain terrain and through old and new deciduous and pine forests. During almost the entire trip, you have Jotunheimen, Dovrefjell and Rondane in sight. From Skåbu it is easy cycling down to Gudbrandsdalen. The rest of the trip follows the valley south to Øyer, Lillehammer.
This trip is inspired by Matrute Gudbrandsdal and emphasis is placed on good food experiences. Every night you can enjoy a tasty dinner. Matrute Gudbrandsdal is a collaboration between several producers and organizations and aims to further develop good local food and drink experiences in Gudbrandsdalen. The fresh air and the clean water provide fertile ground for real and pure flavors of mountains and plains. Identity, culture and sustainable production are important and natural. This has been the case for generations. You cycle on your own and decide when you want to take a break. The map shows you possible shortcuts and detours.

Dinner and overnight at Nermo Hotell, which is part of Matrute Gudbrandsdal. Nermo is a family-run hotel in Øyer, 18 km north of Lillehammer with Hafjell as its nearest neighbor. Nermo Hotell is known for its good cuisine. Short-distance and organic food is often served here. When they say home-baked, it's home-baked.
Day 2 - Øyer Hafjell - Skei

Today you will pass Adventure Park and Lillehammer Olympic bobsleigh and toboggan run. In Fåberg you turn north and cycle Øverbygdsvegen through Gausdal to Skei. Some ascent throughout the day. Skei also offers nice walks. A summit trip to Skeikampen offers fantastic views. Dinner and overnight at Skei.
Day 3 - Skei - Gålå

Easy tour on gravel road. You have to expect some traffic as Peer Gynt Vegen is a popular tourist route during the summer. The trip goes in beautiful mountain scenery with a view to Rondane and Jotunheimen. Ascent up from Skei before you enter the 'roller coaster' to Fagerhøi. From Fagerhøi to Gålå it is easy cycling on a nice mountain road. Some increase. Dinner and overnight in Gålå.
Day 4 - Gålå - Espedalen
hotelRuten Fjellstue, Espedalen
restaurantBreakfast, self-packed lunch and dinner
directions_bike29 km
Continue on the Peer Gynt Road down from Wadahl, past Fefor and on to Espedalen. This trip is a typical 'roller coaster' with many turns and bumps. In some places a steep climb that is rewarded with beautiful views towards Rondane and Jotunheimen when you reach the top of the hill. Before the last hill down to Ruten Fjellstue, you can go for a walk to the top of the mountain, Ruten (1517 masl).
Espedalen is described as 'the friendly wilderness' with forests, high mountains and several continuous mountain lakes. The area has also been named 'Elgland'. Here is one of Europe's largest and most special moose traits. Dinner and overnight at Ruten Fjellstue, at the top of Espedalen.
Day 5 - Espedalen - Hundorp
hotelAccomodation in Hundorp
restaurantBreakfast, self-packed lunch and dinner
directions_bike50 km
From Espedalen, Peer Gynt Vegen descends into a narrow river course before becoming a tough uphill of just over 200 meters up to Skåbu. We recommend a coffee stop at Skåbu Fjellhotell, which is part of Matrute Gudbrandsdal. Lots of downhill on to Vinstra. Follow Gudbrandsdalsvegen (old E6) south from Vinstra. Slightly hilly from Vinstra to Hundorp. Between Vinstra and Hundorp you can take a small detour to the sculpture (s) FLOKK by Gitte Dæhlin. FLOKK consists of 21 long, narrow bronze figures.
Dinner and overnight in Hundorp. Few places have as rich cultural history as Hundorp. Most famous is the club brawl, which ended with Torsbildet being crushed, and the introduction of Christianity started in Gudbrandsdalen. In 2021, it is the 1000th anniversary of the club team at Hundorp.
Day 6 - Hundorp - Øyer Hafjell
restaurantBreakfast and self-packed lunch
directions_bike56 km
Today's cycling stage is hilly, but offers some bumps. The route mostly follows local roads on the west side of Gudbrandsdalslågen. A steep climb of 370 meters above 4 km. between Ringebu and Fåvang. This is rewarded with an equally steep hill down again. Some small bends between Fåvang and Tretten. Individual departure from Øyer Hafjell.
