
Tour de Dovre will take you through peaceful mountain terrain, idyllic farmland and stunning valleys, and you will also experience three of Norway’s most famous National Parks. The cycle route will see you travelling through the beautiful National Parks Dovre, Rondane and Dovrefjell, and you’ll also enjoy incredible views of the famous Gudbrandsdalen and Grimsdalen valleys. Fantastic views of some of Norway’s most iconic mountains will accompany you on your journey.
Tour de Dovre is a truly spectacular cycle journey. The scenic tour winds through three of Norway’s most famous National Parks, allowing you to take in the natural beauty of your spectacular surroundings on two wheels. Aside from the incredible views, you will also be able to take in other natural and traditional experiences if you’d like – such as looking for moose or the famous musk ox that live in these parts, and sampling some local Norwegian food and delicacies.
Along the way, you’ll stay the night in some lovely accommodations that celebrate Norwegian heritage and tradition. After a day of cycling and exploring, you will get some much-needed rest and relaxation at Hjerkinn Mountain Lodge, Grimsdalshytta and Trolltun Guesthouse. These are all great accommodations with a long-standing tradition of hosting travellers to this historic region of Norway, and there are plenty of opportunities for exploring the local area with short hikes, cycle rides, visiting mountain farms, fishing, horseback riding and other experiences closeby.
The Tour de Dovre cycling route is perfect for those who are in decent shape and have some experience with cycling. There are plenty of incredible experiences along the way that are suited to the entire family, and this is certainly a cycling adventure you will never forget.
Day 1 - Arrival to Hjerkinn Fjellstue
You travel by your own to Hjerkinn. Please let us know if you want help to book the train ticket.
In Dovre you will stay at Hjerkinn Fjellstue, a charming traditional mountain lodge with a history of providing friendly, high-quality accommodation for 1200 years. Dinner will be served in the evening.
Day 2 - Grimsdalen - one of Norway´s most beautiful mountain valleys
The route between Hjerkinn and Grimsdalshytta is relatively simple and follows the road. You will pass the river Folla down into the valley and towards Folldal. Form here you follow Rondane National Tourist Roads towards Grimsdalen. Here you cycle between the two national parks - Dovre National Park on one side and Rondane National Park on the other.
Grimsdalshytta DNT consists of beautiful cultural buildings and gives a scenic panoramic view over Rondane mountains. This is one of Norway´s most beautiful mountain valleys.
Day 3 - Gudbrandsdalen and Trolltun
Form the heart of Dovre National Park, you cycle along the river Grimse, Grimsdalsmyrene and Veslegrimsi. The trail here is quite flat, with the exception of the last steep climb up to the mountain plateu. It then descends towards Dovre and one of the most famous valleys in Norway - Gudbrandsdalen. Follow the valley to Trolltun, cycling along the river Gudbrandsdalslågen. At idyllic Trolltun they offers hotel, hostel, cabins and restaurant service. It´s open year around and a great starting point for the many activities at Dovre and Dombås.
Day 4 - Trolltun to Hjerkinn Fjellstue
Today you will follow "the old mountain road”, the hiking and bike road across Dovrefjell. On your right you will have the fantastic Dovre National Park, and on your left you can see the valley of Grytdalen and the mountain Snøhetta, the tallest mountain in the Dovrefjell mountain range. There are several good locations to stop for sightseeing, photos and lunch.
Accomodation at Hjerkinn Fjellstue og Fjellridning. One or several nights in fresh, crisp mountain air is good for you.
Day 5 - Departure day
Last day without any planned activities. Enjoy your free time and relax before heading back home.

Getting Here
- Train to Hjerkinn Station from Oslo or Trondheim. Check entur.no for info. Hjerkinn Fjellstue is located 2,4 km from the train station.
Payment
To confirm your booking, you must pay the full amount upon receiving the payment information from the local tour operator. It's recommended to have travel insurance that covers both personal damage and accidents that may occur during the trip. A deposit of 3 000 NOK per person is due at the time of booking. Your booking is confirmed once the deposit has been received. No payment is made to Norway by Bike.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
If you cancel your booking more than 30 days before the departure date, you will be refunded the amount paid minus a 500 NOK per person fee. If you cancel within 30 days of departure or don't show up, you won't receive a refund except for public charges that don't apply.
The local tour operator charges a 500 NOK per person administration fee for order changes. If you make changes less than 30 days before departure, it's considered a cancellation and a new booking.
