A spectacular ride in the north of Norway. Experience the wild coast of Northern Norway on a three-day cycling adventure from Tromsø to Gryllefjord, across Kvaløya and the island of Senja. Ride between steep mountains and deep fjords, past white sandy beaches, turquoise water and small coastal communities. In summer, the days seem endless under the midnight sun, and along the way you may spot reindeer, seals and sea eagles.
The journey combines quiet coastal roads and cycle paths with mountain climbs, ferry crossings and stretches where you share the road with traffic. There are plenty of places to slow down and enjoy the surroundings – from the beaches of Sommarøy and Ersfjordstranda to the spectacular viewpoint above Bergsfjorden and idyllic Hamn.
There are several tunnels along the route, ranging from short, narrow ones to longer well-lit tunnels. Good bike lights and reflective clothing are recommended, and cyclists should be comfortable riding through tunnels and in mixed traffic. [Read more about cycling through tunnels in Norway here.]
The route ends in Gryllefjord, where the summer ferry connects Senja with Andøya and makes it possible to continue south along Norway’s Coastal Route. You can also return across Senja or continue towards Finnsnes and take the express boat back to Tromsø.
