Experience both sides of the Drammen River through vibrant cityscapes, riverside parks and peaceful natural surroundings.
The ride starts at Drammen Railway Station and follows cycle paths before joining the scenic riverside trail along the Drammen River. The route stays close to the water, combining gravel paths, boardwalks, piers, benches, and several works of art and sculptures. As this is a popular walking area, please ride slowly and show consideration for pedestrians. Along the way, you’ll enjoy views across the river towards the city before the surroundings gradually become quieter and more rural. A short detour to Sølfastøya is well worth the effort. The final kilometres before Mjøndalen follow a quiet road shared with light traffic before returning to idyllic riverside trails towards Hokksund. Near Steinberg, the surface alternates between gravel and asphalt through a peaceful cultural landscape, while nearby Nedre Sandøra offers pleasant walking paths and inviting picnic spots.
In Hokksund you’ll find cafés and shops before crossing to the opposite side of the river for the return ride. Consider stopping at Nøstetangen Glass and Skriverparken along the way. The return route follows a mix of shared-use paths, quiet residential streets and riverside trails through Krokstadelva and Solbergelva. Elveparken is another attractive stop, featuring public art, swimming areas and benches, but it is also popular with pedestrians, so please ride with care. Back in Drammen, it is well worth continuing all the way to Brakerøya before following the riverside promenade back to Bragernes Square and crossing the bridge to return to the railway station.
