The Fantoft Stave Church has a long history. It was built around 1170 in Luster in Sogn. In 1883 it was moved and restored at the current location in Fana just outside city center of Bergen. A dramatic fire in 1992 burnt the church to the ground. The fire was most likely purposeful, but no one was convicted. It was decided to rebuild the church – a challenge since stave churches hadn´t been built in Norway for centuries. The new church was completed in 1997.

A scenic and popular lake with a view to the mountain Ulriken. The waterfront area is taking shape, with art installations, bathing piers and open spaces creating a lively atmosphere along the water.
