This roundtrip starts at the harbour for Hurtigruten/Havila, but can be started anywhere. In this area, called Brattøra, you´ll also find the harbour for the high speed ferries, Trondheim Train Station, Pirbadet – Norways largest indoor swimminghall, and Rockheim – the national museum for popular music in Norway. For outdoor swimming in the fjord and sauna – check out Sjøbadet. As you continue cycling you´ll pass Skansen Bridge, a historic railway drawbridge designed by Joseph B. Strauss, the engineer behind San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. Follow the coastal path toward Ilsvika, a peaceful neighborhood with colorful wooden houses and a laid-back vibe. The path here is shared with pedestrians, so ride gently and enjoy the scenery. On the way back through Ila there´s several cafés, art gallery, colorful houses and street art.
In the Museum Park, the statue of Cissi Klein – a young Holocaust victim tells a powerful story of courage and remembrance. Just a short ride away is the Trondheim Art Museum, home to inspiring exhibitions. Next, you’ll arrive at the striking Nidaros Cathedral, a national treasure and a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Right beside it – the Archbishop’s Palace, dating back to the 12th century, offers a fascinating glimpse into Norway’s medieval history.
Nidelva River is a beloved landmark for the people of Trondheim and the open lawns of Marinen is a great spot for relaxation and outdoor fun. Cross the iconic Old Town Bridge and enter Bakklandet, a charming and lively district filled with small shops, cafés, and traditional wooden houses. This is one of Trondheim’s most atmospheric neighborhoods, perfect for a slow ride and a coffee stop. Continue on to Solsiden, a modern riverside area packed with restaurants, bars, and great people-watching. Cross the Flower Bridge and follow the canal past the train station, returning to Brattøra where your ride began.
