We continue along the eastern side of Lake Aremarksjøen. Quiet, winding country roads lead us through alternating landscapes of farmland and forests, offering several opportunities for pleasant stops along the way. Near Skotsberg, we briefly follow a slightly busier road for 1.5 km before returning to calm surroundings. The route then ascends gently into the hills, where quiet gravel roads offer a special sense of peace. Descending again, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of Lake Femsjøen.
From Tistedal, there are several routes into Halden—we choose to follow the Tista River, where you’ll notice remnants of Halden’s industrial heritage. Arriving in Halden, you’ll immediately spot Fredriksten Fortress dominating the skyline. Built in 1661, it’s now a popular attraction. This charming town offers several restaurants, accommodation options, and train connections to Oslo and Sweden.
