Today’s journey will follow mostly flat and fine gravel road, often following an abandoned railway, and occasionally on paved country roads. There’s a short stretch along the main road, but there is a wide shoulder. Mineralparken, which you’ll reach fairly early, has many attractions and several dining options. It’s also home to Norway’s largest rock shop.

Fifteen kilometers from Evje, you’ll arrive at Kile, where there’s a place to eat. Alternatively, you may want to enjoy your packed meal at one of the rest areas along the quiet and peaceful bike path you’re now following. There’s a lot of history associated with the old Setesdalsbanen railway, which used to run from Kristiansand to Byglandsfjord. It’s now a museum railway that operates an 8 km route during the summer months. At Røyknes station, you’ll see the railway tracks, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of the 100-year-old steam train with its wooden carriages passing by. There are several short tunnels along this stretch, and not all of them are illuminated, so it’s recommended to bring a light.

When you reach Tømmerenna after about 50 km, it’s recommended to make a stop at this unique structure. It’s 4 km long, made of wood, and was used to float timber in the old days. Today, it’s a popular hiking path and can be a nice change from the cycling. Once you’re back on the bike, it’s just a few kilometers to Vennesla, where you can enjoy well-deserved pastries from Moseid Bakeri.

The last 20 km into Kristiansand partly follows a pedestrian and bike path, sidewalks, and a short stretch along a county road with moderate traffic. At Strai, you’ll leave the Otra River, which you’ve been following since Hovden. You’ll notice that you’re approaching a large city with more traffic, some industry, and more buildings. Kristiansand has a lot to offer, including a cozy center called Kvadraturen, picturesque wooden houses in Posebyen, a fortress, harbor areas, a city beach, and many more hiking opportunities. Be sure to take a trip to Tangen at the harbour, where you can see the Otra River meet the sea!
