Experience Kongsberg’s rich cultural and industrial heritage on a cycling route that takes you to four very different museums – from historic farm buildings and hydropower to silver mines and mining history.

The ride starts at Kongsberg Railway Station and first heads to Lågdalsmuseet, one of the largest open-air museums in Numedal. Historic buildings from several centuries have been brought together in a charming setting where you can also see grazing farm animals such as cows and chickens. During opening hours, you can visit the indoor exhibitions showcasing the history and everyday life of Numedal and Kongsberg. From here, the route follows pleasant riverside paths and shared-use trails along the River Lågen to Labromuseene, a cycling stretch of around 6.5 kilometres. Take extra care when crossing the road into the museum area. Located at the former Labrofoss power station, Labromuseene tells the story of Norway’s hydropower and industrial development through its impressive power station buildings and original machinery. There is also a café on site. Don’t miss the restored timber flume below the museum, where you can walk across the river.

The route continues on shared-use paths through the forest, passing Sagdammen bathing area before climbing to the famous Kongsberg Silver Mines. Here you can board the mine train for a journey deep into the mountain and experience the historic silver mines from the inside. Back in the town centre, the ride ends at the Norwegian Mining Museum, which tells the story of Kongsberg Silver Works throughout its 335-year history and houses Norway’s largest collection of native silver and historic silver artefacts. (Please note that this museum is closed 1.8.2026-juni 2027.) Together, these four museums provide a fascinating insight into the history that shaped Kongsberg.
