The journey begins in the heart of Oslo, where the route quickly connects you to the Oslofjord. Following the Harbour Promenade past the Opera House, Akershus Fortress and Aker Brygge, you ease out of the city along one of Norway’s most popular cycling corridors.
Cycling west, the route stays close to the fjord, offering a mix of urban waterfront, beaches, and lively seaside areas. Dedicated bike paths make this section easy to ride, even though you are close to busy roads. Along the way, you pass marinas, small swimming spots, and local hangouts that give a real sense of everyday coastal life around Oslo.
In Sandvika, Kadettangen is a natural place for a break, with a beach, kiosk, and views across the fjord. From here, the route continues on well-developed cycle paths towards Asker, where cafés, shops, and services are easily accessible. Beyond Asker, the ride includes some rolling terrain before reaching the famous Lier hills, where you are rewarded with a long descent and wide views towards Drammen. Here, you’ll find a vibrant riverside atmosphere with restaurants, accommodation, and everything you need after the first day of your journey south along the coast.
