A challenging yet rewarding ride — from Mokk Gård through quiet mountain terrain and down forested gravel roads, ending with one last climb along the Pilgrim Route to historic Stiklestad.

The trail leaving Mokk gård starts gently but soon turns into a long, demanding stretch of push-bike path. It’s well marked, but “long” truly means long – with boggy sections that guarantee wet shoes before the day is over. Despite the effort, the landscape is beautiful and serene, with only the sound of wind and birds for company. Just don’t forget the insect repellent – horseflies and mosquitoes are constant travel companions here in summer. Reaching the old mine, the view opens wide across the hills, and the site’s quiet history makes it a perfect spot for a break at the small shelter.

From the mine, the character of the route changes completely. The pushing ends and smooth gravel roads take over – kilometer after kilometer of steady downhill riding through forest and farmland. The scenery softens as small farms appear, and following the river offers peaceful riding with reflections of the sky in the water. Crossing to the opposite bank gives quieter gravel stretches before the road turns to asphalt. Some sections are shared with light traffic, but overall, it’s a relaxed and scenic ride.

Towards the end, one final climb awaits – up and over a stretch of the historic Pilgrim Route. It’s a tough finish, but the sweeping views make it worthwhile. Arriving at Stiklestad feels almost symbolic: this is one of Norway’s most historic sites, tied to the Viking Age and the story of Saint Olav. The museum area, restaurant, and hotel make it a perfect place to rest and reflect. If you arrive late, take your time the next morning to explore – Stiklestad deserves it.
