This is one of the most spectacular and unforgettable sections of the journey. It’s a challenging but rewarding ride, taking you through breathtaking landscapes, historic sites, and unique geological formations.
The ride is a mix of rolling hills, steep climbs, and exhilarating descents. Some sections are demanding – you´re passing three climbs, but the scenery will take your breath away just as much as the effort. After the first climb the road descends to Åna-Sira. If you’re up for a swim, the beach here is a great place to cool off before continuing your journey. A grocery store is also located here.
One of the most fascinating parts of this ride is Jøssingfjord, an area of great historical significance. This fjord played a key role during World War II and is a place to take your time and soak in the atmosphere. Here, you’ll find Helleren, two historic houses sheltered under a massive rock overhang, standing as a reminder of life in earlier times. Nearby, the new Science Museum (Vitenmuseum) is worth a visit for those interested in history and geology.
There are plenty of rest areas along the way, with picnic benches, making it easy to pause and enjoy the incredible surroundings. A unique feature overlooking Jøssingfjord, is a dedicated tunnel for cyclists, offering a special and practical resting place if you bring a hammock.
As you approach Sogndalstrand, the landscape softens, leading you into one of Norway’s most charming coastal villages – where you can stay at Sogndalstrand Kulturhotell.
