Cycling from Kristiansand to Stavanger is a varied and scenic journey along Norway’s southern coastline, offering a rich mix of landscapes, history, and coastal culture.

The route follows National Cycle Route 1 and takes you through charming white-painted towns like Mandal, Farsund, and Egersund, past long beaches, windswept lighthouses, and deep fjords. You’ll pedal quiet country roads, gravel paths, and seaside promenades, with plenty of inviting detours to historic landmarks, picturesque harbors, and local viewpoints. From Søgne’s coastal trails and Lindesnes Lighthouse to the Dutch-inspired streets of Flekkefjord and the dramatic cliffs of Jøssingfjord, each day brings something new — whether it’s gentle forest paths or steep, rewarding climbs.

The terrain is as diverse as the scenery. You’ll ride through peaceful farmland, over rolling hills, and along wide sandy beaches where surfers chase waves. Some stages are physically demanding, with steep ascents and winding descents, but always with great views and places to pause. Highlights include the converted railway path along Jæren’s coast, the quiet fjord roads near Hafrsfjord, and the Sverd i Fjell monument just before Stavanger. With a good mix of accommodations, cultural sites, and natural beauty, this is a memorable adventure for cyclists seeking both tranquility and challenge along Norway’s coast.
