A peaceful day of cycling along the legendary salmon river Namsen, through quiet farmland and past fishing boats, ending with a unique overnight stay in converted train carriages above the flowing river.

Leaving Namsos, the first part of the route follows a section of the old railway, now a peaceful path with its own cycle and pedestrian bridge crossing the river. The ride follows one of Norway´s most important salmon fishing river –  Namsen – on quiet country roads. At first, the river only appears in glimpses, but as you progress, the views open up and the water becomes a steady companion. You might see the characteristic small wooden boats along the banks, and fishermen standing in the river, trying their luck in the salmon stream. The gently rolling farmland makes for enjoyable cycling with little traffic on the southern side of the river, although the asphalt varies in quality.

Along the way you’ll pass several farm hotels, offering unique overnight stays in the heart of the countryside. The town Overhalla is located on the other side of the river, and offers grocery store and hotel.

The highlight at the end of the ride is the Namsen Salmon & Train Experience – with old railway carriages transformed into cozy accommodation, placed right on top of the former railway bridge across the river. It’s a truly special experience, with less insects up here and the gentle flow of the Namsen beneath your window. It´s also possible to rent a boat and try some fishing yourself. A memorable place to end the day’s ride, with a beautiful sunset.
