Close to the airplanes taking off and landing, yet also rural gravel roads and war memorials are part of this round trip. The airport at Gardermoen is situated in a flat and beautiful agricultural landscape that’s perfect for cycling.
The first thing you encounter is a charming little park with benches and flowers before the pedestrian and cycle path begins. It safely guides you out of the airport area. You’ll get close to the airplanes taking off and landing as you cycle along the runway, amidst fields and meadows that characterize the landscape. Hotels are closely positioned along this stretch, offering opportunities for food and drinks at several places. The SAS Museum is also located here.
There’s a short stretch on the road before turning onto a gravel path towards Trandumskogen. Here, there’s a war memorial, a protected forest area, and the unique tank shooting range can be experienced.
The route continues on winding country roads before branching off at Elstad through picturesque farmland with no traffic. Here, you can enjoy peace and quiet amidst rolling cornfields and forest areas before joining the national pilgrim route. From here, there’s a good cycle path heading southward and eventually westward back to the starting point. Feel free to visit Keplerstjernen for a closer look along the way. Park the bike by the hiking trail just south of the airport and walk into the ravine landscape.
The biggest aviation museum in southern Norway, with over 40 aircraft on display, including all coldwar era fighter jets used by the Royal Norwegian Air Force.
The museum contains SAS's history and is filled with memorabilia from the beginning to the present day. Try the flight simulator and enjoy the view from the lookout tower. Open Sundays and Tuesdays.
A war memorial is raised here in Trandum Forest. The tank shooting range from World War 2 is also located here, a 300 meter training area for testing tanks.
The Kepler Star is an unique landmark close to the airport, designed by artist Vebjørn Sand. The strong light makes the star visible several kilometers away.
