Gardermoen
The Kepler Star is a landmark for Norway’s main airport located at Gardermoen, just north of the Oslo area. But Gardermoen is not just an airport – the surrounding landscape is full of country roads, farms, small villages, and historic sites.
Ullensaker and Nannestad are the two municipalities in the area, and they welcome travelers for shorter or longer stays. If you are visiting for a conference, a cycling trip from your hotel can be a perfect break. Locals who are unsure where to ride can explore a variety of local day trips, while long-distance cyclists may enjoy the Pilgrim Route passing through the area. It is even possible to get on your bike and start cycling directly from the airport. With frequent train services, traveling to and from the area is easy. Well-maintained cycle paths and quiet country roads lead through gentle terrain with fields and meadows, farms and towns, cultural heritage, and distinctive ravine landscapes.
There are several opportunities for swimming in lakes and ponds, and the towns offer good places to stop for a meal along the way. A particularly striking experience is cycling past the tank shooting range at Trandum and visiting the memorials from the Second World War.
The Pilgrim Route also takes you to the historic Eidsvoll Building – one of Norway’s most important national symbols, where the Constitution was written and adopted in 1814. Romeriksåsen, with its extensive forest areas, offers excellent cycling if you prefer gravel roads and more hilly terrain. There´s a wide selection of hotels in the area, and we recommend Park Inn by Radisson Oslo Airport Hotel West and Best Western Leto Arena.
