Cycling from Oslo to Bergen is a dream for many cyclists – a journey through Norway’s diverse landscape, blending lush valleys, majestic mountains, idyllic fjords, and vibrant cities. This route offers a unique opportunity to experience Norway at a pace that allows you to truly appreciate the details and immerse yourself in the stunning surroundings. While it may seem daunting at first, it is entirely achievable, one pedal stroke and one stage at a time.

We’ve selected a route that takes you through some of the most scenic areas between Oslo and Bergen. Highlights include the picturesque Numedal, the iconic Rallarvegen cycling trail, the charming town of Voss, and the breathtaking Hardanger region before reaching Bergen, Norway’s western capital. There are various routes between Oslo and Bergen, but this one provides an ideal mix of spectacular scenery and memorable experiences. Note that a short section of the journey requires a train ride between Myrdal and Upsete. Along the route there will also be 3 ferry crossings over the fjords on the west coast.

The stages can be adjusted to be shorter or longer, making the trip suitable for both experienced and less seasoned cyclists. While some parts of the route follow busier roads, most of it is on bike paths, trails, and quiet country roads with minimal traffic. The surface is mainly asphalt, but about 10 % is gravel. This trip is an accessible and enjoyable adventure for anyone ready to explore Norway by bike. Please note that stage 6 and 7 on Rallarvegen has a short season, usually from July – September.
