The day starts with a pleasant ride along the waterfront in Fredrikstad. This is a popular area for pedestrians, so ride with care. The route is fairly well signposted and easy to follow, continuing through quiet residential streets in Gressvik and into forested areas. Several sections take you close to the sea, with opportunities for a swim and cafés and restaurants along the way.
Most of the route is paved, with a few shorter sections on gravel roads. The landscape alternates between forest, farmland and the coast, with grazing sheep a common sight. Near Evje Golfpark, there is also a short section of trail riding. Several cafés and restaurants along the route are only open during the summer or at weekends, so check opening hours in advance and consider bringing some food with you.
The stage is moderately hilly, with a few longer climbs, but overall the cycling is fairly easy. In Moss, there are several hotels in the town centre, as well as Refsnes Gods on Jeløya, a few kilometres away.
